Anuvu and Southwest Airlines are expanding our program to modernize connectivity on Southwest’s entire fleet. In addition to the latest generation wireless access points, this effort will utilize our Dedicated Space modem and network technology, which won a Crystal Cabin Award for Wi-Fi innovation this year. With this announcement, Southwest awarded us approximately 350 additional aircraft to the first set of Boeing 737s we announced earlier this year. In total, we’ll bring our Dedicated Space solution to over 800 aircraft in Southwest’s existing fleet.
Dedicated Space has been a resounding success for Southwest—and their passengers—who recognize the technological advancements that Anuvu engineered and certified. With Dedicated Space we are seeing the fastest beam handover times in the industry and latency improvements that rival the best possible times for geosynchronous-based communications. In short, Dedicated Space is delivering onboard Wi-Fi performance at the very edge of physics, and both our customers and the industry are noticing. These results are one reason why Southwest agreed last week to double the amount of speed we’ll push to each modernized aircraft, further improving their customers’ experience.
Our focus remains on completing the Southwest modernization program, continuing MAX installations, and launching the Anuvu Constellation in 2023. We continue to see interest across the industry in a future that includes GEO and LEO, and Anuvu is one of the only providers offering a flexible network that resonates with airlines as they make decisions about their future passenger experiences.
This fleet expansion is incredible news and an important next step in our relationship with Southwest and we want to thank every colleague who has had a role in this project. You exemplify hard work, determination and innovation, and we recognize that.
